JET: Your passport to success!
A young man who JET placed at Customs & Immigration has processed more passports in one day than anyone has before.
James, who has been an Assistant Passport Officer since April, is enjoying his role, which allows him to utilise his skills in a meaningful way, such as attention to detail.
‘Working here has been an interesting experience,’ he said. ‘I have never done anything like this before. The Customs & Immigration team have been very helpful and supportive.
‘When I was searching for a job, the challenge was not having the right skills or experience. JET has helped me gain the necessary skills and experience for various roles, which has allowed me to be more confident and productive in my work life.
‘JET has been helpful throughout the job search process, providing valuable guidance and support. They’ve helped me write and update my CV, and helped me prepare for interviews. Their regular check-ins help.’
James is supported by Lydia Ward, an Employment Co-ordinator with JET’s Under-25s Service. She said: ‘It has been great to see James do so well and watch his confidence grow in the time he has been working. Seeing someone like James thrive and excel will hopefully be a great source of inspiration for others.’
James added: ‘To those who need support finding work, I’d say don’t hesitate to reach out to JET as they offer valuable resources and support that can make a difference in your job searching process.’
Andy Allan, Senior Manager, Immigration and Nationality, (pictured) said: ‘James has done very well. We wanted to give someone an opportunity to get into work, and working with James and JET has definitely been a positive experience for us.
‘James has been superb in his role undertaking data entry, which has been exactly what we needed. The first four or five months of the year is “passport season” for us and we bring in temporary staff to deal with the huge workload.
‘James has set a new record – over 90 passport applications in a day! The team were suitably impressed. I’ve done it myself and I certainly couldn’t have done 90 in a day.’
